The 2018 Midterms turned out to be a monumental success. Building on victories made in 2017, Delaware County turned out in record numbers to elect Democrats to State and Federal office. Mary Gay Scanlon’s race was decided early, becoming the first congresswoman to represent the newly redistricted PA5. Much to his pleasant surprise, Tim Kearney flipped State Senate District 26 by almost 10,000 votes. Much loved progressive powerhouse Leanne Kreuger-Brankey easily won reelection for State House District 161. Every Democrat on the the ballot in Swarthmore won – including the reelections of Governor Tom Wolf and Senator Bob Casey! In addition, congratulations are in order to Jennifer O’Mara, Mike Zabel, and Dave Delloso for flipping their State House seats! These wins reflect not only the strength of the candidates running for office, but also the tireless work that was put into each campaign by volunteers like those from MTN. The countless hours spent door knocking, phone banking, and postcard writing helped elect candidates focused on health care, public schools, the local economy, and other issues important to members of MTN.
Indivisible Swarthmore: Moving the Needle has been working to elect progressive candidates to local, state, and federal office since December, 2016. Sister Indivisible Groups and statewide Pennsylvania organizations such as PA Together and Turn PA Blue helped these and other candidates win election across Pennsylvania on Tuesday. To learn more about MTN efforts, we encourage you to view the following videos recorded as election results were coming in and the day after for broadcast on Canadian Broadcasting (CBC) and the BBC.
